Over the past thirty years Rev. George Chioros, has actively served as a parish priest, board member on many community boards, and active participant in many local charities. His commitment to people and ministry has been dedicated. Father George was born and raised in the south suburbs of Chicago, Illinois graduating from Amos Alonzo Stagg High School in 1982. He was called to ministry at an early age and attended Hellenic College in Brookline, Massachusetts receiving his Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies in 1986. He continued his education at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology in Brookline, Massachusetts where he received a Masters of Divinity with Distinction in 1989. Following graduation he married Flora Despotides of Bethesda, Maryland and was assigned to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Chicago, Illinois where he served as the Associate Pastor from August, 1989 to February, 1992. He was ordained to the Deaconate on October 1, 1989 and to the Priesthood on October 22, 1989. During his ministry at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church he was responsible for all of the youth programs including the 300 plus students of the parochial school. While at the parish he began many youth programs including the Young Adult League for Orthodox youth ages 18 to 25. Fr. George and Presvytera Flora are the proud parents of Constantine George who was born on February 24, 1994.

In February of 1992 he was assigned as the pastor of the St. Theodore Greek Orthodox Church in Lanham, Maryland where he and Presvytera Flora soon became the proud parents of Constantine George who was born February 24, 1994. The parish had been meeting in a small home on a four acre property with the goal of building a church and community center. During Father George’s tenure at St. Theodore, he built the community center and church edifice negotiating with and enlisting the help of local government officials, businesses and parishioners. He also bridged the gap with local multi- denominational clergy building bridges within the diverse Prince Georges County Maryland community. He joined in fellowship with other area pan-Orthodox clergy as well as helping on the Greater Washington DC Ministers association. After completing the building project and establishing the ministries of St. Theodore, he was asked to move to Roanoke Virginia in April of 1996.

He was assigned as the pastor of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Roanoke, Virginia and served the faithful in the area from April 1996 to August 1999. The parish of Roanoke served Orthodox Christians along the Interstate-81 corridor, north from Staunton and Lexington, south to Christiansburg/Blacksburg and Pulaski and west to Bluefield, West Virginia. He spent time driving many miles to various locations to offer the sacraments to those who lived too far to drive to the Roanoke church on any given Sunday. He also met with and provided the sacrament of the Eucharist for students attending Virginia Tech on a monthly basis. During his time in Roanoke, Father George became an active leader in the greater community serving on numerous boards. He especially enjoyed his time on the Roanoke Valley Minister’s Association where he served two terms as president elect. Regrettably, as he was to take on the presidency of the association he was transferred to Newport News, Virginia.

Father George was assigned to the Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in August of 1999 where he continues to diligently serve the large Orthodox Christian community on the Peninsula. For the past twenty years while serving the faithful of his parish, he has continuously striven to lead both Orthodox organizations as well as community groups. He has participated in national and local charities by giving of his time as well as physical donations of blood “the gift of life” every 60 days to the local Red Cross blood bank. He continues his efforts to bridge the gap between the Orthodox Christian faithful and those of other faiths as a guest columnist in the Daily Press and by serving on local, regional and national committees. There are numerous boards that he serves or has participated in during his time in the Hampton Roads area. They are as follows:

  • Orthodox Metropolis Council of New Jersey 2006-2009

  • President of Hellenic College/Holy Cross School of Theology Alumni Board 2008-2012

  • Representative of the Archdiocesan Council 2008-2012

  • Treasurer of the Metropolis of New Jersey Sysdesmos Board 2000 to present

  • Chaplain at the Hampton Veterans Hospital 2000 to present

  • Virginia Council of Churches Coordinating Cabinet 2004 to present

Deacon Noah Hendricks

Deacon Noah Hendricks is originally from Atlanta, Georgia. Growing up, his family were members of one of the large United Methodist Churches in Atlanta and were involved in the various ministries and activities in the church. Around his junior year in high school, he felt a compelling urge to serve his country and made the decision to attended North Georgia College where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration and was commissioned an Army officer. In his 23-year Army career he had the privilege to serve in numerous leadership and managerial positions in the United States and Germany, and also earned a Master of Arts in Education Administration from West Virginia University. He retired from the Army and is currently a government civilian working for the Army at Fort Eustis, Virginia.

It was during his military assignment in Morgantown, West Virginia, where he and his wife started to feel it was important to find a spiritual home for their young family and joined Assumption Greek Orthodox Church. He made the decision to convert to the Orthodox faith and was Chrismated as Noah in September 1994. Since that time, and as the result of relocations in the Army, he and his family have been members of four different Orthodox churches and has been involved in the church ministries and parish leadership in every community. Since joining Saints Constantine and Helen in April 2000, the Hendricks family has been active and engaged members. It was during his service as an adult advisor to the Altar Boys where he started to feel drawn to a deeper service to the church and heard about the Diaconate Program at Hellenic College Holy Cross.  He completed the Diaconate Program in August 2018. His petition for ordination was approved by His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios in December 2018, and was ordained to the Holy Diaconate by the Grace of God and through the hands of His Eminence Metropolitan Evangelos of New Jersey on September 22, 2019.
